CTG soapbox finishes 6th at Goodwood
Sat 20th, Jul 2002
The CTG soapbox racer, competing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time this year, fended off stiff competition to finish sixth overall from 26 competitors.
Among the scalps taken by the CTG team were Jaguar, Prodrive, Bentley, Ford, MIRA, Ricardo, and Vauxhall.
The CTG car, completed only minutes before being transported to the Festival of Speed for its Friday practice run, was constructed from advanced composite components. The car's super-stiff chassis and axles were constructed from CTG carbon-fibre propshafts, with composite bulkheads and leaf springs. Faired-in wheels with modified bearings and low profile tyres, along with a revised aerodynamics package, ensured low rolling and wind resistance, giving the car the edge over many of its competitors.
The vehicle is now on display in the CTG Thorpe Park facility.
