CTG partners up to develop Efficient Electrical Systems for Hybrids and Electric Vehicles
Wed 21st, Oct 2009CTG are key partners of a project which involves developing efficient electrical systems for Hybrids and Electric Vehicles.
The UK Technology Strategy Board is awarding more than £10 million (US$16.5 million) to projects to develop ultra-efficient electrical systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. This is the first set of awards resulting from a competition run under the Integrated Delivery Programme; a £200M investment program that will help accelerate the introduction of low carbon vehicles onto UK roads.
CTG will utilise their extensive expertise in the design & manufacture mechanical and electromechanical flywheels as well as flywheel containment and high speed motor magnet retention during the 24 month programme.

KINERGY - Kinetic Energy Recovery and Storage System
The project will provide CTG with improved capabilities and capacity; facilitating the manufacture of the 'next generation' volume production high speed CFRP flywheels and associated devices.
Mike Dewhirst CTG's Engineering Director said, "This is a very exciting project for our Clean Energy Technologies Team and with the world today moving towards electric vehicles and Hybrids, a demand is required for more energy efficient systems such as our Kinergy system".
Notes:
The UK Technology Strategy Board is a business-led executive non-departmental public body, established by the government. Its role is to promote and support research into, and development and exploitation of, technology and innovation for the benefit of UK business, in order to increase economic growth and improve the quality of life. It is sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
