CTG acquires AEA Technology's Filament Winding Business
Wed 11th, Apr 2001Crompton Technology Group Ltd, the Banbury-based high technology engineering company, has acquired the filament winding business of the leading science and technology company AEA Technology. The deal involves the transfer of technology and plant from the AEA Technology composite manufacturing facility based at Harwell. Mike Dewhirst, the CTG Marketing & Sales Director said: "This deal brings new capability to our company. The technology transferred complements CTG's current capabilities and expertise in the area of filament wound advanced composite materials. The relocation of equipment to Banbury will allow CTG to expand into new markets while developing new products for existing customers." The transfer of technology to CTG includes the transfer of several important customers from the motorsport industry. This will mean CTG will become involved in the higher echelons of the motorsport industry with deals in place to supply products to F1, GT, Touring cars and the World Rally Championship Teams. The deal includes composite manufacturing plant and a suite of mechanical testing equipment that will allow CTG to continue to deliver award-winning levels of service and innovation to its customers. This deal comes at the end of a busy few months of development and growth for the Oxfordshire company in which a new coating technology for light alloys was announced along with details of the expansion into 24,000 square feet of new manufacturing and development space at Thorpe Park. Mr. Dewhirst added, "The continued expansion plans are running to schedule and further staff are being recruited to meet the demands of our new customers. CTG is extremely well placed to enter the motorsport industry, being involved in the highly demanding aerospace, automotive and the medical imaging industries. Neither is motorsport new to the company's directors, as all have previously been heavily involved in the motorsport industry." The recent investment demonstrates CTG's continuing commitment to its customers and to the Banbury area, and coincides with the launch of their website, www.ctgltd.co.uk.
